It’s always hard to chose the best type of tire and it’s always kind of a head hake for me to select the correct percentage. On the best case scenario, I would swap wheels between On-road and Off-road, but it’s not very practical. So manufacturer came up with a way to describe their tires in percentage of road condition. Usually, it’s describe in two percentage value of each terrain. The first value is the Off-Road and the second is the On-road percentage. So if your tire are described like so 50/50 that mean that they are equally good off the road and equally good on the road. If your tire are 80/20, that mean that they are 80% Off-road and 20% On-road, if they are 20/80…You get the drift. So one important thing to consider is to calculate the time you pass off and on road.
But even more important is to determine where you want to have more performance. In fact, I ride almost the same number of kilometer off and on road, but I don’t mind have louder tires and have less grip in corners on road. What I really want is to have the maximum traction off-road. In my case, I roll with 60/40 not 50/50 because of my preference, not because of the surface I ride the most.
